Searching for a job through the quagmire that was senior year recruiting was a tough process, but I was essentially hooked by APT after my first real interaction with the people there and after learning what it was all about. My collegial studies of business, math, and cognitive science fit perfectly into APT’s quantitative approach to solving behavioral problems. Their practice of relying on the quantitative methods of the sturdy and defensible scientific method to solve some extraordinarily interesting business problems resonates well with my own views of the only reliable way to make informed strategy decisions in today’s amazingly interconnected, diverse, and complicated world.
I always imagined how cool it would be to be involved in a young, entrepreneurial venture, but was a little scared off by the uncertainty and lack of security such a job would provide, especially directly out of college. APT provided the right answer – it is a company that is still young and still very small, so that I immediately had a surprising level of responsibility from day one and have the opportunity to engage in a number of different work functions defined by my own interests. But at the same time, APT is well enough entrenched into the business world with stable, yet fast-growing business that I don’t have to worry about the firm going belly-up overnight.
What also appealed to me was the chance to work on multiple engagements in different industries at once, which only expands my learning opportunities. APT offers the chance to engage completely different industries at the same time, and build client relationships over your entire career, which are two things you wouldn’t really be able to do at a traditional consulting company.
I spend a lot of time moving from place to place when I’m outside of work, whether it is biking, running, hiking, or going on spontaneous road trips in search of the next beautiful thing. To go along with the exercising bit, I always enjoy a good game of ultimate frisbee or tennis, and I am training to hopefully compete in a triathlon soon.
