Recruiting sessions and dinners can be difficult as a job candidate—you must be continuously engaged, thoughtful, interesting, and interested in the employees you are talking to (or pretending like you are). When I had dinner with APT during interviews, I was surprised when the meal came to a close—I had been enjoying the people and conversation so much!
Everyone at APT is smart. I love that. Many benefits of consulting at APT are obvious: Direct work with several clients in multiple industries, (not excessive) travel, access to senior leadership, and greater responsibility and choice due to our smaller size. There are others, as well: working with software engineers, our casual dress code, and free food in the office (Freshman APT 15 anyone?).
The classes where I learned the most (Econometrics, Real Analysis) involved problem sets and projects without explicit guidelines, where collaborating with classmates to understand the material was half the journey. On my first post-training day at APT, I was asked to make changes to tables in SQL. In that moment, I realized that in becoming an adult with a job (at least at APT), I wasn’t giving up any of the thinking, collaborating, and challenges that made college a great time and a kick in the pants (and really grew my interests and skills).
The work is interesting, and the people are great. And that’s the bottom line.
I love reading, especially fiction and books on feminism and the financial markets. I also enjoy biking, running, and exploring DC and its museums, restaurants, and parks. I’m living by myself for the first time, and enjoying the freedom. Over the next year, I want to learn to knit, cook more, learn interesting recipes, and continue travelling to see friends all over the country.
