Why APT?

Coming out of college, there were a number of paths I could see myself going down. I really liked both the engagement with difficult questions and the level of community one gets in an academic environment, but at the same time I wanted not just to acquire insights but to apply them.

For me, picking APT came down to a balance of factors. As an organization, APT is small enough for me to know everybody, young enough to be exciting, and collaborative enough to make work a team effort not a competition. When you walk into the office, APT feels different. APT also brings to bear a uniquely well thought out approach to answering business questions.

APT is rapidly growing in a way that allows consultants’ responsibilities to grow as their competence grows: in a small and dynamic organization, as you learn how to handle various aspects of analysis and client relationships, you will be relied upon to take the lead more and more on particular components of the projects you’re on. When I started at APT, I was highly impressed by the amount of experience, capability, and responsibility the class above me had acquired in a comparatively short time.

At the same time, APT is actually doing something no one else is: providing its consultants and clients with software tools specifically designed to address some of the toughest business problems. This is what gives me the confidence that APT is a good place to be not just for the present but for the future.

Daily Responsibilities

As a Business Consultant, I work on multiple client teams in a variety of capacities. Sometimes my responsibilities focus on helping analysts within our clients generate analytically sound answers to the questions they’re asking. At other times, I find myself responsible for independently designing and conducting analysis with the guidance of my client team leads. I’ve taken the lead on conducting analysis on a wide variety of business questions across multiple industries, and I’ve gotten to take part in presenting those outputs to senior client executives.

What I’ve found most exciting about the day-to-day of APT is watching a client relationship develop from the first outlines of a few questions our client would like answers to into a full set of analytical outputs targeting those and other questions, and laying the groundwork for an ongoing relationship with the client.

Outside of Work

In my time at APT, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the DC and Northern Virginia area. DC is a city full of young people doing a wide variety of interesting things. NoVa is a young area as well, with a wide array of excellent restaurants ranging from authentic ethnic places to fine dining.

When I’m not out exploring the area, I try to improve myself by reading, getting exercise, and learning the guitar.
