Why APT?

As a senior engineer for a government contractor for many years, I knew I was ready for something different and exciting, although I didn't know exactly what. As a soon-to-be father of twins, I wanted the stability and security of a successful and profitable company. Luck drew me to APT, and I found both.

I was initially attracted to APT by two words on the website in particular: intellectual meritocracy. After an extensive interview process through which I met almost one-third of the company, I was confident that APT would be a great place for me. I was particularly impressed by everyone's intensity and intelligence, and I saw a level of energy that I had not expected to be so consistently high among so many people.

More than 5 years later, I'm still thrilled to be here, and I look forward to going to work every day. The technical challenges are great, and the business problems we're trying to solve for our clients fascinate me. The constant flow of new ideas and the rapid development and release cycles keep me on my toes. I learn every day from my co-workers, and APT has given me remarkable flexibility and opportunities to grow.

Daily responsibilities:

I find myself wearing quite a few hats at APT. I have had my hands in our deployment/build process, our login/security code, performance tracking and testing, database integrity checks, a major workflow overhaul, and a variety of design and architecture decisions. Lately I've been helping to build a completely new product.

I'm always looking for ways to make engineers' jobs (including my own) easier, through writing and enhancing reusable components, participating in design and code reviews, and documenting what I know.

Outside of work:

I love to travel and explore, and I enjoy tinkering with digital photography. But I spend most of my non-work time trying to keep up with our twins, who have earned the nickname "the Wizards" from my co-workers. I have also been a balloon handler in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
