Why APT?

It was an easy decision for me to work for APT after coming into the office for interviews. Everyone I met was enthusiastic and excited about the company itself and their own specific roles. As a company, APT was appealing to me because it allowed me to be involved in the fields of both business and technology, which were my two biggest interests throughout college. I liked the idea that I would be involved with clients from all different industries and would be helping to solve a large variety of business problems. I was also excited about the idea of working for a small company because it there is such a large opportunity for growth, and I knew I would have an important role.

Daily Responsibilities:

One of the great things about working at APT is the breadth of exposure I get across all areas of thecompany  and the variety of work that I do. On any given day, I might be talking to consultants about what business issues are most important to our clients and what we are doing to solve them, designing new features to build into our software, or working with engineers to figure out the best approach to an important analytic problem.

As an APM, I’ve been given a ton of responsibility from day one. I play a major role in building new software tools to target specific business issues, like media- and product-based promotions, by designing features, managing priorities, and making important tradeoffs during implementation. It’s my responsibility to think through these business issues from our clients’ perspectives in order to make sure we are completely supporting their use case. I’ve also gotten to take the lead on the day to day operations of one of our primary software tools and have been able to tangibly contribute to its growth by implementing improvements, explaining complicated analytics, and helping with client analysis. Most recently, I led a extensive revamp of the way we manage results in this tool to allow our clients to easily manage more complicated analyses. I am constantly interacting with people from throughout APT to gather feedback, answer questions, lead training sessions, have my own questions answered, and keep up to date on the type of issues our clients are facing.

Outside of work:

I spend my time outside work playing golf and looking for pickup basketball games in the DC area. I’m always up for a poker game or joining one of the many weekly DC sports leagues. From time to time, I drive back down to Durham to catch a Duke basketball (or sometimes even football) game, and I love going to Nationals games even though I’m a lifelong Padres fan. I’m also an avid scuba diver, snow skier, and wakeboarder, and, when someone’s there to talk me into it, I’ve been known to skydive as well.
