APT's Jim Manzi Speaks at MIT's Sloan School of Business

Executive Chairman & Managing Director Jim Manzi Presents at the 2009 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts — Jim Manzi, Executive Chairman of APT, spoke today at the 2009 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium, an annual one-day summit on the MIT campus where CIOs and other senior business executives gather to discuss how developments in academic research and technological innovation are changing the ways companies do business.

A co-founder of APT, Manzi is a foremost authority on using pattern recognition and optimization models for business applications. He has developed models that have been implemented by leading corporations around the world, breaking new ground by enabling companies to enhance their strategic efforts in a wide range of areas, from sales and marketing to capital investment and human resource management.

A record number of over 700 attendees were present at the MIT Sloan Symposium, where Manzi delivered a keynote address, titled "Using Experiments to Drive Shareholder Value." Sharing examples from client work, Manzi identified the latest trends in business experimentation, including the expansion of testing into new industries, and its role in building corporate value and growth for organizations over time. "We're seeing a growing number of consumer-focused companies across industries embrace business experimentation to improve decision making and drive long-term profitability," said Manzi.

Michael Schrage, a research fellow at MIT Sloan School's Center for Digital Business and one of the Conference organizers, described the presentation as an impressive part of the event. "Jim's talk was a pitch-perfect exploration of what's theoretically required to have statistically-meaningful business experimentation and what's practically involved in implementing an innovation process that commands top management respect and investment," said Schrage.
